Perhaps not quite a 4, but close enough to give 4 stars. I like how Merit has developed and I hopefully believe that she hasn't reached her peak as yet. I find myself willing her to be able to meet Ethan as an equal, rather than his underling, whilst I did see glimpses of this I want to see more. It is for this reason that I find Ethan irritating, a little overbearing and still stuck with a (albeit smaller) stick up his bum.

Really like the characters, but enough with the back and forth between Ethen & Merit. It's been going on for so much it became annoying. Finally they got together to stay. This book starts with Ethen & Merit headed out west, then a confrontation with Tate. Great scene. Then they finally get to their destination and some issues with Mallory happen, with some new friends helping. Then some interesting twists, and they head back to Chicago. The rest of the book takes place in Chicago. Some unsettli ...more

Shelves: urban-fantasy

And just like that everything has started to make sense. The last book, the characters, everything.

This book is handled extremely well. The plot is great and the characters are still consistent but there is a lot of development.

In general, while the previous book had disappointed me a little, this one more than makes up for it. It in fact makes up for most things, because adults are finally acting like rational adults. That is such a miracle in the world of vampires ;)

I love this series but I am really over the will they or won't they on and off relationship crazies between Merit and Ethan. All I kept thinking is after everything they've been through there is no way there would be that type of distance at least not right away. I am happy with the way things turned out with Mallory, I was worried about what way it would go with her and I did not want to end up hating her character. ...more

Shelves: read-on-2012

Not as exciting as the other books. :/ Maybe I'm just so annoyed with what happened with Ethan that I'm expecting for something grand. I also didn't like the way Jonah was written off... Errr. That's it for him? Well anyway, I just feel so unfulfilled.

Even with that rant, I am still hopeful for this series. I just feel "blah". CN writes well... I'm no expert but her style really does appeal to me. :) ...more
