Five stars for me. I've been reading quite a few books this summer but not many have been that great. Iron Duke is that good. Didn't have to skim pages to see if the book was going to worth the effort, which I've done before. I've been hesitant about steampunk considering the amount of background that would have to go into a book in order to give the reader enough information in order to imagine the world of the characters. For me this felt like a 2 star book. I couldn't connect with the main characters and their lovestory, motivations and reactions didn't feel real. There is a lot of haphazard action but while entertaining, it made little sense and the resolutions were rushed or just fizzled out.
I liked the premise of the book and the steampunk elements, so these round it up to 3 stars. I might give the next book a try though because this world the author created is quite fascinating. ...more
