Sigh... I knew I shouldn't have picked this book up. It's aimed at women I'm thinking, but not completely sure.

I actually enjoyed reading it, but am not sure I want to try the next out. Main character is a bit of a whiner.

Addendum: Yep, it's referred to by others as a "Paranormal Romance" or as the incomparable Felicia Day referred to it "Urban Vaginal Fantasy". I'm feeling kind of ill knowing I read a "romance" novel. On the flip side it had violence, sex and lots of cussing. ...more

It took me a little while to get into this one and a lot of waiting while the author built a good foundation, especially the first third where it seemed to be mostly them walking around. The strengths in the story were the characters and their interactions. I wasn't really invested in their survival, but I was interested in the drama, lol. I guess I'll get to the next one eventually, maybe when Orbit releases the omnibus edition. ...more

Shelves: what-fantasy

Excellent urban fantasy for fans of Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison and the ilk. I love that she's not obsessed with fashion and hot men, she's a real woman, respectable while still gritty. She's not obsessed with dangerous men or worried about whether she'll ruin her good shoes in a fight. I actually almost cried at one point. I also love the fact that she's bisexual, not in a promiscuous way but in that she has loving, long term relationships with both men and women, and it's not an issue, it's just ...more
