Finale furioso

OK, I am still gasping for air and fanning myself after I spent the last 5 hours devouring the final book in Catalina and Alessandro’s story, with practically no break. So be warned, once you start and get sucked into this fast-paced, gripping, high-octane action rollercoaster of a Urban Fantasy tale, you’ll find it difficult to stop. This book not only finishes the story arc that has been set up over the course of the previous books of the series, but it also unveils a number of m Finale furioso

OK, I am still gasping for air and fanning myself after I spent the last 5 hours devouring the final book in Catalina and Alessandro’s story, with practically no break. So be warned, once you start and get sucked into this fast-paced, gripping, high-octane action rollercoaster of a Urban Fantasy tale, you’ll find it difficult to stop. This book not only finishes the story arc that has been set up over the course of the previous books of the series, but it also unveils a number of mysteries surrounding the Baylor family, answers (most) open questions and ends with a wedding and sort of a happy family reunion.

As huge Hidden Legacy-Fan from the first book featuring Nevada and Rogan I have to admit that I was more than just a bit sceptical when the narrative perspective shifted to Catalina, especially since I try to stay away from YA books. I like my UF heroines rather a bit more seasoned, and Catalina comes across as a complicated mix of youthful inexperience and sometimes even rashness, paired with the weight of responsibility that she had to assume at too young an age. But I thought Alessandro was a good foil for her; he started out as this polished, suave, ice-cold assassin, and then his background and his personality was revealed layer by layer. I liked their dynamic together and how their individual strengths complemented each other. It was kind of refreshing how he let her take the lead in most things…

The series also lives thru the strong cast of supporting characters, most notably the two grandmas, that couldn’t be any more different, but also the cousins, the friends and allies that the Baylor family have collected over time, and even the sinister, seemingly undefeatable villain(s). Although this book brings everything to a more or less satisfying close, there is the possibility left open for future stories revolving around the youngest Baylor sister, Arabella. But unless I am mistaken, the Russian prince is a decoy and Arabella has her sights set elsewhere… ...more

Good closing to Catalina's story. She does seem a bit lacking. She has a crush on Alessandro and then falls in love, but I didn't really see WHY they would fall in love. It all happened quick. This one is 6 months after book 2 (in her story). You can tell Andrews was packing it all up for a long storage. No loose ends were left- except that everyone and their brother is ready to leave Catalina and move on to Arabella. (really hoping it is a Michael love match and not a love triangle).
