What Members Thought

In reading this, I've come to the firm conclusion that I really am a UF girl. I can enjoy PNR, but the conventions of the genre drive me batty.
The ridiculously quick connection between the characters, the Sudden Surprise Sex (with an intruder, no less), and all the blooming cores were too much for me. Flares of lust and heat and need struck me as cliché.
In terms of the universe, Ward paints her world of warrior vampires and their soulless opponents with broad strokes. We get the bare minimum o ...more

Book One of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

As I was reading I found that the basic storyline to be really interesting but the writing at times kind of got to me. The "funny" moments seemed forced. I wasn't a fan of the names but, I can over look that. Wrath at times reminded me of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, and yes I mean the Disney cartoon. But over all good book, can't wait to read the second book in the series. I'm looking forward to know what happens to some of the ot ...more

I read Lover Avenged first, loved it and simply had to read the other books. So I bought a copy of Dark Lover. And I am pleased to say that Dark Lover did not disappoint at all, it's very well written and J.R. can do characters like no ones business. Her character growth is usually nothing short of excellent, and like I wrote in my review for Lover Avenged, she really gets you into the character's heads and really helps you understand who they are and why they do what they do. And the romance wa

I guess one could call this a classic paranormal romance...back from the days of flipper cell phones and calling a cab rather than an Uber.
A fun read if you like this genre, which I do! So much so, in fact, that I put all my reading challenges challenge aside again and jumped into the next book in the series, Lover Eternal. I was not feeling well (side-effects of my second dose of COVID vaccine) and I needed comfort, which for some reason I always get from sexy vampires. If that's wrong, I don' ...more

I keep expecting myself to like this series more than I do. I'm not a huge fan of this series, because it is so dark, I'm not a fan of the Lessers and the religious aspects make me uncomfortable. This reminded me of Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker series. And I LOVE that series. I think this one was a little darker and the brotherhood vampires were more scary and seriously flawed than the Nightwalker demons. I really enjoyed Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors vampire warrior romance series more or

My first time reading this book I was blown away by the story and the characters and the realism. I quickly read through the rest of the entire series before coming up for air. After having been away from these books for many months, and re-reading the first book now, I can can still say that all those reviews that think this book is better than the second coming...they're right.

Upon re-read it's still the dialogue that gets me with this series. I don't expect it to be all doom and gloom, but the oddly adolescent jibes don't mesh or provide the comic relief that it seems the author is going for at times. Also there is one scene that uses paint rollers to describe the definition in the character's abs that was also so specific and unappealing that it was kind of funny to read.
