I loved this book. I love gothic literature and this was a fantastic modern gothic. It reminded me of the old gothic paperbacks I bought at used bookstores when I was younger.
(I've been drawn to idea of the gothic, that beauty in darkness since I was a small child, that and fantasy) But yes the used bookstore would have a bunch from the 60/70s for like .25 cents or so and I would by bag full (I wish I still had them) And Mexican Gothic has captured that same feeling.

I can't think of a more appropriate title than that of "Mexican Gothic." It's a lovely, creepy tale, for fans of gothic novels. The post-colonial Mexican village high in the mountains, the creepy atmosphere - it all makes for some great late night reads. Rather a departure from my normal reading but thoroughly enjoyed it. Creepy yet entertaining and somewhat predictable. 3.5 stars

I have to admit I was so looking forward to reading this book but was let down by the majority of the story. It wasn't a long book thankfully because if it had kept going on I probably would have given it 2 stars. All the stuff that happened at the end is what actually saved this book from 2 stars or less.

I pushed myself to finish the book but it was truly a struggle for me.
