4 solid wonderful stars for this first-in-the-series about a coyote shapeshifter VW mechanic and her crazy paranormal world. She property abuts that of the Pack Alpha, her former boss is a gremlin, and her current pet project is a WV van owned by a vampire who loves Scooby Doo. I knew this was going to live up to all of the hype.
And it did. Briggs is solid at urban fantasy, and I was quickly sucked into to Mercy's world. I felt the story dragged a little in the middle, and then the ending too n ...more

I deliberately avoided reading too much about this series so I wouldn't be swayed particularly since it is raved about so strongly.
Much stronger than I was expecting, I was suprised to find that Mercy was not a werewolf at all. An human/supe world - not particularly anything different from what is out there already, but Moon Called introduces some interesting characters, politics and Briggs has her own touches.
Mercy's background is quite unique and she is not quite the sterotypical UF heroine ...more

Love this book.
It it a bit slow to start with but you immediatly get sucked into mercy's world.
Mercy's world is about to change with the werewolves wanting to come out of hiding from the humans.
but Adam (the local hot studly alpha) is severely beaten and his daughter kidnapped.
to find Jesse(adam's Daughter) Mercy enlist the help of her old boss (and grmlin/metalsmith/Fae) Zee, and Stefan (a scooby doo loving Vampire) and the Marrok (the alpha of all alpha's). to track the kidnappers down.

I thought Mercy Thompson was a well-developed character in a believable world of vampires, werewolves and walkers. She's tough, likable, and keeps interesting company. Nice, fast-paced story and a quick read. Very enjoyable!

This was fun. Mercy is a complicated person...she'll go to church, bake cookies, repair a car's engine and then shoot some bad guys. Oh yeah, and she also happens to be able to turn into a coyote.
This is , as I often say about pure pleausure reads, the literary equivalent of eating potato chips or buttered popcorn. It's meant to be fun and it sure is hard to stop once you get started. Briggs is a talented writer. Her dialogue is snappy and occasionally hilarious.

Enjoyed this easy read. The Female character Mercedes is a mechanic who shape shifts into a coyote. Mercedes brought up by werewolves bought her garage from the Fae and has customers that include vampires so plenty of differing magical dimensions. A strong independent woman who kills when she needs to protects those she loves and has a strong sense of morality

This was good, I really liked the main character. I like that she's not your typical were-something, I think there's a lot of directions that the author can go in w/ her. Looking forward to reading book #2, once I finish #4 and #5 of Women of the Otherworld...

I don't know how I feel about this book. It was a slow roll reading this, but I found myself coming back to read the next chapter. Well, that and I can't not finish a book.
Everything felt so matter of fact that I didn't feel anything for the characters. ...more
