**6.12.2011 ETA: Finished book three and this is one of the most frustrating YA series I've read to date. If you've no tolerance for angsty, bratty, obtuse heroines, steer right clear of it.**
When I first read The Iron King I enjoyed it. I found Ash intriguing, Puck endearing, Grim deliciously mysterious, and the iron fey’s origins refreshing. I applauded Kagawa for conceptualizing a breed of fey borne of our obsession with technology. I noticed obvious similarities between The Iron King and the ...more

The second full book in the series picked up where the short story left off. If you didn't read the short story between the first book and this book that's okay Julie does a good job of catching you up on missed events. Megan Chance continues to develop as a character, I enjoy her character because while she is young she isn't winy. She is very action oriented and continues to hold friendships and alliances up at all costs. Once she sets her mind to get something done she moves forward with all

I had a huge problem with the romance in this book. It went the (unfortunate) Twilight route with the 'dying unless I'm with him' route, plus added the 'my best guy friend is also in love with me but..." avenue as well. BLECH!
I wouldn't have minded so much, but also wouldn't have even started the series, if the first book had even hinted at this. And I'm really sorry, Julie Kagawa is a good writer and this world that she's created really could do and deserves better.

I thought the first book in this series, The Iron King, was a lot of fun, even if I did have some minor issues with characterization I was definitely looking forward to seeing just where Kagawa would take these characters. Unfortunately, this one was a major disappointment. Instead of growing up a bit, Meghan seemed to regress on practically every level. She wallows for what seems like the first third of the book because Ash treats her rudely in front of Mab, even though it's right after he said

I picked and began reading up The Iron Daughter as soon as I finished The Iron King and the short story Winter's Passage. The tale begins at the point The Iron King ends and incorporates a few elements from the free Iron Fey novella Winter's Passage. I was eager to continue reading the series and hoped that Kagawa would be able to sustain the interesting storyline and wonderfully descriptive writing.

Struggled whether this was a 3.5 or 4 star book. I liked it and all my favorite characters were back. I just don't feel the heat between Meghan and Ash.
Likes:
* Grimalkin - awesome as expected
* Ash - a little colder than expected, but understandably
* Sage - had potential for being likeable

The first part was a bit tiring, with Megan bemoaning her fate more than anything, but the second half picks up speed.
Lots of drama, but at least Megan's constant in what she wants, even if she's acting immature at times.
I still don't like most fey but a couple of them are cool and I liked Ash's decision in the end, hard as it might have been.
I don't know if I'll keep reading the series, since I seem to have outgrown it (or maybe it's just my dislike of fey and their stupidly arrogant attitude ...more
