I gave this book 3.5 stars because I liked the mating at first sight plot and the twist with Ethan's power. However, I'm disappointed on what's Ms. Singh is doing with the series as whole. There isn't that sense of conflict and danger that we felt in the original series. Even with how unusual it was, everybody took this mating in stride, which didn't make any sense for a pack of suspicious wolves. I would have wanted Selenka to be shocked at the bond and try to fight it - can you imagine the leader of a large group of people being foisted a partner she doesn't know without her questioning it? Also, Ethan's traitorous behavior was swept under the rug by two very dangerous groups. Does that sound likely to you?

Then there's the fact that Selenka spent more time hugging people than actually being an Alpha. Yeah, yeah, I know she's supposed to be the "heart of the pack" bla bla but this is PNR!! When a member of her pack gets killed IN HER TERRITORY I expect her to be furious and not rest until the culprit is found and fucking secure her borders. She should have been paranoid, asking herself who did this, why they did it, what's their aim, etc. Instead she goes and plans a funeral - which was an expected move and if she had an enemy with better resources, her pack would have been toast. She barely pays enough attention to the investigation or even asks for a report after they interview a suspect.

Another issue I'm having with this "season two" of the series is that THERE AREN'T ENOUGH HUMANS!! They are supposed to be the third part of the 'Trinity' besides Psy and Changelings but there are barely any around, not even as secondary characters. Even though humans are supposed to be the key to fix the PsyNet, that plot point hasn't been followed through; in fact, except for Max and Sophia in book 8, there haven't been any other Psy and human pairings!! I would have been ok with no humans as MCs but this is how Ms. Singh set up this "spinoff" and now she's not paying it off. If you think about it, she could have been taken a least a couple of the empaths in this series and transform them to human and there wouldn't have been much of a difference in the plots.

If there wasn't more story to be told, I would have just stopped reading the series but this is clearly not what's going on. It's as if Ms. Singh got tired of writing action and she just wants to write fluff - I mean, how many times do we have to hear that the bears are crazy?

I'm always gushing about the world-building in this series. It's the reason why I love the books so much. You get a different focal couple each book, but the overall story affects everyone that you've met or have yet to meet.

I loved that Selenka and Ethan's mating was so rare that it was thought to be impossible. Like something you would see on a soap opera.

While I'd hoped Selenka might've questioned the instant mating a bit harder in the beginning, I eventually felt her acceptance of the situation fit because of her trust in her wolf. Overall, I enjoyed this pairing and learning more about Ethan especially.

I'm glad I finally returned to Singh's Psy-Changeling series. It's been nice losing myself in this world again. The shift from "main" to "trinity" was a bit harder than I'd thought though. But, aside from book 2 (Ocean Light), which sadly wasn' ...more

To be fair, I had been complaining that there hadn't been any male Es before I got to this book. But the male lead in this doesn't count because he had spent most of his life being trained and deployed as an Arrow. He only discovers his E-ness a long way into the story. Selenka, I liked for several reasons. One, we hadn't seen a female alpha other than whatsername--the Black Sea one. And even with her, we don't get to see much about the way she operates.
