Re-read as a part of SOS' group series read

It was a lot of fun returning to the beginning. I'd forgotten quite a bit, but that's to be expected after ten years and hundreds of books in between reads. I gotta say, I did not remember how whiny Rachel could be. Geeeeeeez! But, I love her, so I overlooked it and continued on.

The start of a great series!

It really is. I mean where else are you going to find Tinkerbell bashing in literature. You won't I say! Harrison Jenks is an absolute delight to the series, and hope that his kids are just as hysterical. Very nifty soundtrack for him. I really did think of his song when I first read of him.
Rachel is also a very well fleshed out character, and wonder what type of trouble she can get into?

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. It took me a long time to get to this series as I initially didn't think I would be interested in it since I am a huge PR fan. Lately I have discovered that I LOVE Urban Fantasy even more!

Where to start? This book was extremely enjoyable, so much so that I could not put it down. I lost sleep trying to get this book finished so I could move on to the next!

The characters and plot were all very well written. There was non stop action and comedic dialog throughout.

The World:Harrison has created such a vivid and interesting paranormal world. Pixies and Witches and Vamps OH MY! It doesn't end there! We have a hint of Weres, Demons and Faeries too! All sorts of things are hidden in this world that she barely just touched base on, that I am sure she will be including in future books. This is what hooked me, such an array of paranormal elements that she magically blends together to make the world such a wonder to read about.

Rachel: Rachel is extremely enjoyable to read. She is a strong witch who can hold her own and take care of herself and who happens to get into a world of trouble! I enjoyed the relationships she found herself getting into throughout the book (with Jenks, Ivy and the rat man lol) even though she started out as more of a loner. This made the character very enjoyable as she is evolving constantly with the circumstances she is thrown into as well as with the *family* she now has that she didn't have before.

Jenks: Wow this is one HOT Pixie! While this book doesn't really have a romantic storyline, I found Jenks to be such a hot little man. He is such a little badass and at first I wondered *What could a pixie possibly do to help Rachel!?* but we find out exactly what kind of a badass he is when the Faeries try to pull one over on them. I really enjoyed that scene and came out with a new outlook on just how dangerous he can be. When he was first introduced I wondered how loyal he would actually be to Rachel considering the dialog between the two. His loyalty and friendship with her became very strong and it was really touching to see that part of him. I also enjoyed reading about his wife and a little of the background about the Pixies in Harrison's world. I look forward to reading a lot more about them in the future!

Rat man: Yeah I know he has a name but he is forever rat man to me because of his rat fighting ordeal lol. I like this character but he is VERY mysterious. We don't get to find out too much about him and what we DO get to find out about - Harrison leaves a shadow of a doubt in our minds that what we were told might be untrue.
I thought this was a good call on Harrison's part as it left him to be mysterious and that makes us wonder exactly what his deal is and what the future holds for him and Rachel.

Why did I only give this book 4 stars out of 5? Well Rachel has some hangups that really annoyed me. She is independent and is having a hard time dealing with help from other people, whom she now calls her friends.
After all that is said and done she cant get over her hang ups and that I found to be annoying - she is a bit too stubborn for my taste and I hope as I read on with the series that this changes just a little bit as she has the potential to be one of the best heroines I have ever read.

Love this series! Okay....just finished book 8 (Black Magic Sanction)! Since I'm into series and am always searching for new ones to get into -I usually like to write my "overall series review" on book 1 so others can get an idea of the whole series instead of just the one book. I absolutely fell in love with this one! Book one was a bit on the ehhh side for me and it took me a bit to pick up book 2, but once I did I just got more and more hooked as the books went by. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. This book has been in my possession for way too long without me finally sitting down to read it. I will admit I've seen some low recommendations for this book but I was pleasantly suprised that I really enjoyed it.
For one thing, this book has a rich and detailed "world". A lot of books I've read in this genre just have "our world, humans re blind to the paranormal" stance, which quite honestly, is kind of lazy. I seem to enjoy stories that take place in a fantastical place or in this case re-wri ...more
