I really use to love the Anita Blake series. The last couple of books have just not been that great for me. There is just not enough plot to go along with Anita sleeping with everyone. It is annoying. Batman never looked at Robin and said, "Come Robin, we can save the world if we have sex with everyone within reach," It didn't make sense then or now. Come on LKH!!! I absolutely loved this one. It follows up on foreshadowing and bits of plot from dozens of books earlier, finally redeeming Richard, finally making Asher happy (those two are related but I won't spoil it), upping the ante yet AGAIN after I thought for sure it couldn't be done after Skin Trade, bringing both Micah and Nathaniel into perspective as Anita's true favorites, taking unexpected turns and combining almost every sort of plot twist from previous books into something paradoxically new. I swore to myself I won't read anymore of the series after I read the 17th book, but then I came across the cover for the 20th and read the synopsis and the wheels in my head went "assassin, Edward and Olaf, good book, the best book since it all went to hell... have to read!" and so, there I am like 2 days later after I read the 18th, which wasn't bad probably cuz Richard and all the annoying people didn't have enough pages to make appearance, but when I moved to the next one it was an ok maybe
