The Elemental Assassin series is quickly becoming one of my favorite! The heroine, Gin, is a total bad ass – and not like the annoying kind who tries really hard to be tough, Gin just IS that big of a threat. The Elemental Assassin series is quickly becoming one of my favorite! The heroine, Gin, is a total bad ass – and not like the annoying kind who tries really hard to be tough, Gin just IS that big of a threat. Outside of her intimidating presence and knowing she can take care of herself by calling on the elements around her (namely stone and water), I am entertained by the wit and sarcasm laced throughout the book.

Like many of the series out there, the plot is secondary to me. I’m much more interested in the characters and their interactions. Flynn, her only real family, is one of my favorites and I can’t help but feel the warm fuzzies whenever he is around. I liked Donovan in the first book and wondered how his character would evolve through the series… Although I understand his dilemma in morality, there is no real insight to Donovan’s thoughts other than the black and white of what is right which I find frustrating. The walls between Donovan and Gin are so thick I just want to lock them in a room together and force them to “use their words” and communicate – at least bridge a better understanding of what the other person is all about. Will we see him in the next book? Hmm… Although you are lead to believe Donovan is moving on from Gin and her world, you just never know… (Or perhaps that is just me being delusional and holding out hope Donovan comes to his senses and professes his undying love to Gin... Sometimes it's hard to say.) Meanwhile, Owen Grayson certainly seems like a very nice new diversion and holds some serious promise as a love interest. Even if the chemistry between Gin and Owen doesn't seem to compare, Owen seems to truly care for Gin - as a whole person - rather than judging Gin as an assassin. I am interested to see where their relationship will go in the next book!

I love Gin. She's so kickass and snarky, and she can cook, too! Just my kind of girl. Here she comes out of retirement to help an old friend of Fletcher's, and in the process makes several new enemies and discovers the identity of an old one. She also discovers an increase in her powers, which will be interesting for subsequent books.

Although there were some steamy times with Donovan, the introduction of Owen Greyson as a potential new love interest is more promising, since he doesn't seem to ha ...more

I honestly thought that this was going to be the last book for me from the Elemental Assassin series but I am curious about Gin and Owen in Venom. The whole Donovan and Gin relationship was really getting on my nerves. So now I look forward to the next book with Gin developing her powers and a more well suited relationship with Grayson. I'm crossing my fingers. ...more
