I needed this lighthearted and very sexy romance. It just made my day. Rock Hard is the story of a rather large T-rex and his lovable mouse that roared. No, really. OK, T-rex is Charlotte's (Charlie's) pet name for Gabriel Bishop, the big brawny ex-rugby player and very successful businessman. Charlotte is the mouse - shy, reserved, skittish - however, she does stand up to her very demanding boss. This was a lot of fun to read and the sexual tension buildup was delicious.

Despite the horror that is contained in Charlotte's past, this book is mostly light hearted fun with just enough pathos and tenderness from Gabriel to make it a compassionate and sexy read as well.

I have enjoyed this series and this book is no different. I enjoyed rugby, the throw back theme of the big boss and the mouse who is wicked smart, and New Zealand.

The romance and plot aren't surprising but Singh is a great writer and these are wonderful characters. A comfort read.

Gabriel Bishop is intrigued by the little mouse with intelligence who hides her beauty and lets others take credit for her work. She’s a conundrum he’s determined to figure out. When he promotes her to his assistant she can’t avoid him and he goes out of his way to tempt the real ‘Miss Baird’ out from behind the shy reserve and fear that speaks of terrible treatment by one his sex. If he ever finds out who that was he’s going to pummel him.

The characters of both Charlie and Gabriel are perfectly written, the way their relationship developed, unfolding so gradually over the pages was entirely natural and captivating to the reader. I particularly loved Gabriel’s dedication and patience to win over Charlie and earn her trust and Charlie’s wilful determination not to let her past tragedy define her and not just win her T-Rex’s love, but stand up to him on equal footing.

I like how it wasn’t just Charlie’s issues that get dealt with and that Charlie and Gabriel as a couple properly compliment each other, with Charlie’s tragic experiences giving her a maturity and understanding to help Gabriel deal with the anger and pain he stills carries from the abandonment by his father years ago, enough to help him step past his anger and spend time with his estranged father when he comes back into his life. These were important aspects of the book, which elevated it above the usual ‘damsel in distress saved by hero’ trope and showed how true healthy relationships are about trust, patience and the ability to listen and take the advice with different viewpoints and life experiences.

Nalini Singh shows a depth of understanding and maturity of writing to tackle difficult issues and emotions with gravitas, whilst still allowing this book to have numerous laugh out loud moments, that equally gut punch you with the depth of emotion and wring a tear from the eye. I was rooting for the couple right from the start and with them throughout all the bumps in the road.

A beautifully written piece, great story, fabulous characters you want to snuggle up with and the best so far in the Rock Kiss series. Definitely a book not to miss.
