I like the world building, and would like to continue on ... but I deeply dislike the FMC. I'm going to be honest, Opal is probably the dumbest FMC I have encountered in a book that didn't make me immediately DNF. I mean, she's stupid on top of stupid, making the worst decision in all cases, flitting around like a brainless teenager who has no idea how to function in the world. Minimum Wage Magic is set 20 years after the (fabulous) end of the Heartstriker series. This is the story of Opal, a (supposedly) not very good mage who has her back against the wall trying to pay a debt. Everything has been going wrong on her job when all of a sudden she finds a dead guy and the possibility of a payout beyond her wildest dreams.

There are some similarities to the Heartstrikers - like Julius, Opal is a good person, who's not willing to compromise her principles, with an overbeari ...more
