This is kind of YA/NA, and kind of not. Basically, there's 2 timelines - the now, where Callie is 24, and 8 years ago when she first met the Bargainer. The story is pushed along those 2 timelines in tandem.
Mostly I really liked it, but that's only because I made myself ignore some of the stupid stuff with Callie. Honestly, there's no difference, to me, in the age 16 Callie and the age 24 Callie. Her narrative never moves out of the overly dramatic crap you get in her younger self. And that's ho ...more

I saw this recommended to fans of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and being that I'm a huge fan of that series and given how much the description intrigued me, to say nothing of the low price, I clicked buy without hesitation. And I ended up being so glad that I did! Put simply, I loved this book! The comparisons to ACOTAR are well deserved! Des reminded me a great deal of Rhys. And Callie reminded me of Feyre from the first ACOTAR book. Laura employed the friends to lovers trope for Des

I think I'm leaning more towards a 3.75 star rating with this book.
I liked it mostly the things that creeped out my friends didn't bother me but the metamorphism at the end had me more creeped out then he was older and she was a teen. I mean nothing happened between them when Des first met Callie. Callie was a teen who had gotten into a bind. She called on Des and he helped her fix it. Later when she went to school he watched out for her and took care of her. He may have had feelings for her bu ...more

4 Stars only..
I debated between 4 and 4 1/2 stars.
I loved the characters in the book.
The fast pace story/plotline, romantic tension build up etc.. in the beginning. Then..
I got real tired of the flipping back and forth of "7 year separation" between them.
I started to skip the "flip back' enough was enough.
Some parts throughout started to bother me..
Des super controlling. Callie super lovesick.
The "Otherworld" Des took Callie to...kinda weird.
Baby/women in coffins.. babies they "fed" off the wom ...more
