I must admit that Ward always gets me with her snarky and heartfelt sentimentality. I have enjoyed all of her short stories/novellas. They are complete tales without being too insta-love, or too detail driven.

This is the first Ward book I've read since The Shadows, and my faith is somewhat restored. She handled the difficult subject matter well, and I maybe think she's had a change of heart about Havers, too, as he comes off quite well here. It will be interesting to see whether Silas, Ivie, and his missing brother feature in the BDB books down the track. ...more
