Very rarely does a series come along that completely pulls the reader in to the story in such a way that creates a reading frenzy. I’m not sure why I waited so long to get back into reading this series. Well, I do know I was trying to be responsible and read my review books but…I was missing out!

RED FOX escalates the level of creepy horror just a notch from what we experienced in DARKHOUSE by mixing in Native American legends and skin walkers. No ghosts here.

Since I had a few minutes before leaving for work, I decided to read through the first few pages of Red Fox to get a feel for the story. Since I had a few minutes before leaving for work, I decided to read through the first few pages of Red Fox to get a feel for the story. Although I’d read the first book in the Experiment in Terror series and had thought it was just OK, I’d heard so many positives about the series, I wanted to give the next book a try. HOLY COW! Boy am I glad I did - before I knew it, I was 80 pages into the book and late for work!

Like I said, the first book in this series was fine. Darkhouse had a story line that was different and interesting but a bit slow moving in places. The main characters - Perry and Dex are both very down-to-earth people with their own imperfections and peculiarities so although it took some time to get past some of their quirks, I appreciated that they weren’t the pretty, perfect people routinely described in books. By the end of the book, I just felt like I knew Perry and Dex as fully developed characters and it further invested my interest to continue the story line.

Red Fox , on the other hand, grabs you with both hands and pulls you into the story line from the start. Having premiered their first episode of their web show - "Experiment in Terror", Perry and Dex are heading to New Mexico to look into unexplained happenings occurring on a farm. Because their production is very low budget and to keep them close to where the hauntings have transpired, they pretend they are married so they can stay at the farm and share the one available bedroom. Let’s just say, this provided the perfect opportunity to illuminate the physical attraction between these two! - Not that much was really acted upon. Sigh.. I’m not sure what is going on with Dex’s girlfriend from back home. Jen is mentioned but Dex is not much of a talker and therefore isn’t one to give up much information. I don’t get the impression they have a close relationship. Maybe it’s because of the pull felt between Dex and Perry that I assume Dex and his girlfriend have more of a relationship based on convenience as they are both in the same business and web show. I know this book is not listed as a romance, but my preference is to have a little more love so that’s my only complaint. Otherwise, this book has everything. It’s well written. It’s interesting. It’s funny. Although some things may be predicted – there are plenty of surprises. I will say there are some parts of Red Fox that are definitely creepy – and I’m not really one to get spooked easily!

Needless to say, I’ve already downloaded book 3 – Dead Sky Morning.

I think I found another favourite series! I don't know exactly what it is, about these books, but I can't seem to be putting them down. Is it the creepy atmosphere, the fantastic characters, the fact that Karina Halle keeps revealing more and more about Perry and Dex, yet always leaves us with more intriguing questions about them that need an answer...? Well, it's probably all of those things.
