I skimmed through quite a bit of this particularly details about quests and teleportations and other things I have no interest in. Which is really bizarre to me as I would re-read similar scenes in a fantasy book. In fact scenes where the protagonists travel on a quest are probably part of my favourite bits in fantasy so i don't get it.

This book is one of my faves this year. I had seen the movie prior to reading the book and still enjoyed the story.

I honestly loved this.
Sure, as a child of the 80s, the pop culture references hit me where I live. I'm also a gamer, so yeah, I'm sure I fit squarely into the perfect audience for this book.
But above and beyond all that, I just loved it. It was sad, and thrilling, and hopeful, and so many other things. It was also a bit frightening... this picture of the future, I feel like we're a teeny half-step away from that. I could see this being our world. I could see it happening within my lifetime.
