I loved this book for the first 100 or so pages, then I got a little bit bored with the monotony of the hunt for the Easter egg and the game within the game. I felt like I needed to fast forward VH1's Decade of the 80's to get to the resolution. I really wanted to really fall in love with this book, but I just couldn't, even though I am a Child of the 80's and still have my collection of Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks on one of the many bookshelves. Ultimately, I was annoyed at the length of the b

I have finally come to terms with the fact that I'm simply not a sci fi fan (shocking really as I love Fantasy). I skimmed through quite a bit of this particularly details about quests and teleportations and other things I have no interest in. Which is really bizarre to me as I would re-read similar scenes in a fantasy book. In fact scenes where the protagonists travel on a quest are probably part of my favourite bits in fantasy so i don't get it.

A must read for geeks that grew up in the 80s!

I honestly loved this.
Sure, as a child of the 80s, the pop culture references hit me where I live. I'm also a gamer, so yeah, I'm sure I fit squarely into the perfect audience for this book.
But above and beyond all that, I just loved it. It was sad, and thrilling, and hopeful, and so many other things. It was also a bit frightening... this picture of the future, I feel like we're a teeny half-step away from that. I could see this being our world. I could see it happening within my lifetime.

I definitely enjoyed and loved this book. what a fun nostalgic read. It hits so many eras - the 70s, the 80s and the 2000s. I grew up in the 80s and am a gamer though not as prolific as some! I loved the game references, the movie references AND the music references. Rush, anyone ? definitely will re read this one.
