Oh how I love this series and this world. Honestly.
I could never say whether I love A&O more than Mercy, I really just love love love the world, the constructs and the huge cast populating it. And this book did not disappoint.
I loved watching Charles and Anna struggle to make a functioning relationship, despite their tremendous differences (in personalities, in ages, in roles, in pretty much every tangible way). They are such a complimentary pair, and together they make such a much stronger who ...more

I love Ms. Briggs' writing and this book did not disappoint. Anna and Charles are having problems that stem from his job as the Marrock's enforcer. Anna seeks help from Bran and is initially rebuffed, but later he sends them to work on a serial killer task force. The chase was fascinating, and involved humans, werewolves, fae and a witch all working together, but the subplot with Charles and the ghosts was great, too.

Briggs has done it again. While this series has always been second to Mercy for me, it just gets stronger and stronger (and I enjoyed this one much more than the last Mercy). Charles and Anna are such great characters with a complex dynamic that makes for an exciting couple. This one brings us a geat dark mystery full of fascinating fae and wolves and the continuing fallout of them coming out to the public. The story leaves you anxious for the next in the series.*

Just finished for a second time. Man, can Briggs write. A refreshing coolant for my weary, booktok ridden soul.
I really should be staggering these with the Mercy books (listening to those) but I read faster than I listen.

4.5 stars.
