What Members Thought

The hero and the heroine are great characters but sadly we don't really get the couple time we need to really explore who they are and who they are together. The romance is slow starting but that didn't really bother me. However, not spending more time with them after that got together did. We should have started into the timeline of the next book I think. I would have loved to see the heroine finding her place.

This got 4 stars from me, even though there wasn't much focus on the romance, because Tess was a badass. I love women who are strong and brave. She was afraid, but she didn't let that fear hold her back. She was also very smart and that didn't waiver throughout the story.

I enjoyed the story and the development of the Nightkind world. I would have liked to have had a bit more interaction between the H/h in general--felt like the book was just too short. :( But the way the author writes, I expect we will get other stories with Xavier and Tess down the road to flesh their story out.

I liked Xavier del Torro, 2nd to Julian, the King of the Night Demense ie Vampires. He was a product of his age, about the time of the corrupt Catholic Church and the Inquisition. His manners are lovely, yet he can be a deadly predator when needed.
Tess was a product of foster homes etc etc yet had a strong moral compass. However, there was just something about her I didn't quite like. I've read a few heroines just like her and I must say I liked them better.
