The Shifter series is not one of the best Urban Fantasy / Paranormal romance series on the market, but the main character Faythe is a likeable sort and the plot lines are entertaining, so I definitely recommend them for fans of the genre. Just, with these power-house series and larger-than life characters such as Sookie, Bones, Anita, Mac, Barrons...Faythe and Marc are eclipsed, literally. These just don’t have as much depth as some of my favorite series and while I had fun listening to it on audio book, this won’t be one of those series that I like revisit and I’ll only move on if the third book falls in my lap.

Faythe has rejoined her Pride in the hopes of one day attaining freedom from her father’s oppressive ruling. She’s been put in the position of enforcer and it might be fun slapping around a few strays -- but having to wrestle dead bodies into trunks and question lecherous strip club bartenders is a bit out of her comfort zone. But, it is what she has to do to prove to her father and the rest of the Pride that she has what it takes.

Unfortunately something odd is occurring in her father’s territory. Murdered strays keep on popping up and the similarities are too great to dismiss as random violent acts. There is someone out there killing cats and now it’s up to Faythe and Marc to find out who it is and take care of the problem.

Like I stated earlier, while entertaining and well-written these books are a shallow comparison to other shifter series. Faythe does a lot of internalizing which can drive you off the plot track, which I find distracting and her behavior is sometimes ridiculous and immature, which I find annoying. I personally don’t “feel” the love between Faythe and Marc. I’m really convinced Faythe is with him because it is convenient and Marc because he is scared to death of becoming a stray. It’s a rather complicated relationship where I feel they are co-dependent on one another, so nothing really to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. My final thoughts on this series, something to while away the time...but nothing to write mother about.

Recommended for fans of lighter urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels, such as the Sookie Stackhouse series. This is an adult novel, there is plenty of explicit violence, sex and compromising situations. ...more

As usual, this is not one of my favorite series, and it's kinda tough to get through the whole book, however we finally see Faythe mature just a bit. But it was a good story, and an entertaining well created world which is why I keep reading it. ...more

In author Rachel Vincent’s second Shifters novel, Rogue, we pick back pretty much where we left off in the first novel Stray. In that novel Faythe agreed to stay at home and learn to run the Pride (of which her father is Alpha) for two and a half years; putting off collage to do so. No only that but when she left collage she also left her boyfriend Andrew, or ex-boyfriend as it were, there.

Now murdered toms (male werecat’s) are turning up and it seems the murders may be May have slight spoilers.

I really liked this book as the second in the series it answers a few questions that were left unanswered in the first book mostly all concerning Andrew.

Faythe’s father wants her to take over the Pride when the time comes and he has been training her for her whole life, even though she just realized it in the last novel in which she is in her 20’s.

As before Faythe is the only daughter of a Pride Alpha. There are not many tabbies—female werecat’s—left which makes her special of course but more so she is not the first ever female enforcer and working hard to prove herself.

Now, Marc, we get a LOT of plot concerning her and him and I have to say that in the end I was very upset at Faythe for how things played out and now there relationship is kind of, well I am pretty sure there is not a ‘relationship’ anymore. All because Faythe is selfish and scared to death to commit herself to the man that she loves.

Again this really upset me, we all know Faythe loves Marc and he loves her—so why can she not just get over the whole omg-he-is-trying-to-make-me-get-married-and-stay-at-home-and-turn-into-my-mom. Sigh. Really upsets me overall because Faythe acts like it is such a bad thing that her mom is house-wife (I suppose). Sure I guess it is not something for everyone, but to me it seems that Faythe is just running in the other direction because they want her to go in the other one and she is scared and I do not understand why.

Lastly—huge cliffhanger! What a way to end the book we are left not knowing what is going to happen to Faythe after her ‘accident’. I won’t say what it was of course but she is now going before the council for them to decide her fate.

Altogether the book was very good, fast paced, interesting with some sexy scenes as well. I look forward to picking up the next novel, Pride, and fining out what happen after everything is said and done with the Council. ...more

For me, Rogue by Rachel Vincent the second book in her shifter series was a lot more enjoyable, the story had a beginning, middle and end and didn't feel at all like it floundered for longer than it should have.
With any series i will tell you always to start at book one to fully connect and understand the characters, these books are very much follow ons from the previous.

Faythe still gets on my nerves more than a bit and I'm still frustrated with the sexism that goes on in these books, but I'm grateful that both of my major issues with the book are actually addressed in this book. Faythe has just gotten back together with Marc, and while they can't seem to take their eyes (or hands) off one another, they also have to find time to be enforcers for their Alpha (Faythe's father). Rogue could be easily described in two words: hot and intense. The romance is still fiery and the action is still extremely entertaining. The mystery revolving around the murders going on in Rogue is intriguing and VIncent does an excellent job of teasing the readers. This book was nearly impossible to put down, too.

Faythe is definitely one to speak her mind; that's my favorite of her assets and also the reason I sometimes hate her. Faythe is more than a bit of a hothead and that sometimes makes the reading unbearable; I just wanted to slap her throughout the last half of the book. But I'm also glad that she isn't afraid of speaking up for herself, since a lot of protagonist don't. Occasionally I love the fact that Faythe is stubborn and refuses to bend to the Pride's ridiculous rules. And I'm glad that the sexism the Pride has is a common source of Faythe's frustration, and I can only hope eventually she'll have the power to do something about it. Vincent portrays Faythe realistically (for a werecat, I mean) and even though she has her major flaws, I'll be glad to see her maturing throughout the rest of the series.

The Pride members aren't all that well introduced, save for Marc, Jace, and Faythe's father, but I think they are well-placed and well-written. Even though most of book centers around Faythe, each of the characters' have their own distinctive personality and traits. I liked how Vincent incorporated more of Faythe's mother into this installment and I hope she's in more of the following books. The Alpha, Faythe's dad, is still one of my favorite characters, because he's so unwavering and Faythe completely takes after him, even if she hates to think that. As always, Marc is a sweetheart and I loved him, even when Faythe was treating him horribly.

The writing in Rogue isn't anything special, but I like how Faythe's voice is so unique and detailed. Sometimes she gets a little annoying with her constant hard-headed personality, but it was still distinctive and felt real. Vincent describes the werecats and the action in a fast paced, dangerous writing style that adds a lot to the overall story line. A lot happens in this book and it was all well-executed and I loved how action-packed the book was. Overall it was a great sequel and a good novel in general.
