Do you ever want to be scared?

Due to Halloween being just around the corner, I felt the excitement to read something outside of my comfort zone. Something to scare me, something to frighten may, something that could very well cause me to be unable to go to sleep. I wanted this feeling, I longed for it, and when I saw this novel proudly displaying itself on the Sale section, of course I went and paid my $12 to get this book.

I'm not sure how to even begin this review. When I first picked up Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, I thought it was going to be some creepy horror novel, and that usually isn't my style. Elements of fantasy come together with mystery and suspense, all wrapped up in a historical setting with a touch of horror here and there. Unique barely even begins to describe this novel!

I thought it was going to be a bit scarier, more horror themed. But, in reality the book is, while definitely still creepy, an imaginative, unique tale that delves into the world of realistic fantasy, so to speak.

I thought that the overall story in this book was interesting and enjoyed it. The setting was well done and the pictures added a great element to the story telling. I did think that the story has a few holes in it, though, that may or may not be cleared up in the sequel.
I liked some of the minor characters like Millard but thought that Jacob wasn't too bright for being in the "special ed." classes (which I took to mean the smart kid classes.) Overall, I didn't really connect with Jacob at all. H ...more
