Whitney, My Love (the original version 1985) is a prime example of a bodice ripper in all its un pc glory! This novel has it all - the innocent but feisty heroine, handsome arrogant Duke, MULTIPLE misunderstandings, mistaken perceptions and the infamous scenes of physical cruelty (he spanks her with a riding crop when she displeases him) and rape. I took the fifth star out because I had a few problems with this book:
1-it should have ended the night after the wedding, after that it was just creepy.
2-why didn't he proposed her the normal way, I'm not buying the whole story!
3-for those who ever had a crazy jealous boyfriend - you know the one that accuses you when you look around, when you talk to someone and can't help himself but immediately jump to the WORST conclusion about you and make your life hell - we all know that Whitney's life is ...more

Yes, there is an unfortunate scene in this book. But the hero is otherwise so well brought to life and the romance so delicious that I have to give it 5 stars. Written in a different time period, so I'm not judging it for today's much better standards of behavior.
