Most likely, "Cinderella" is the most well known and popular fairy tale in the world. Partically, every culture has a version. There are even less well known version such as 'Donkeyskin". The idea of being transformed, of one's true worth being recognized is seductive and a time honored tradition. We even it use in sports. When a writer decided to tackle and/or retell the story of Cinderella, he or she confronts not only Dinsey's blonde mouse friend but all the baggage that comes with Cinderella

This story has gained a certain cachet for being the “lesbian Cinderella” novel. Yet, there’s no real passion or feeling to the story. Everything feels so effortless, from the escaping from the stepmother and family, to the affair with the huntress, to the resolution of the bargain with the fairy, all the way the events at both balls. Is about a young girl whose mother has died, her father remarries, her stepmother has two daughters, her father dies and her stepmother makes her a servant.
Yes, this is Cinderella, but with some major interesting twists. Ash dances with the Prince at a ball but it’s the King’s Huntress Kaisa who she really wants. And in turn, she is wanted by the fairy Sidhean. Ash is consumed by grief, fed on fairy tales, cloaked in loneliness, solitude and death.

This was a pretty good read. I felt the GLBT twist was kind of tacked on to make the book seem "edgier" for teen readers. That being said, the author's writing style is very polished and descriptive. I love how she interlaced her own original fairy tales into the narrative. I think she could have gone into a bit more depth about the fairy world itself, though. And Ash didn't feel like she went on enough of a journey to me. I felt I was supposed to see her growing stronger and more self-sufficien

This book was slow, and somber. It took me a web to read because of it's slow pace and unexciting characters.
