Ah, Ms. Kelypas - you've done it again! You've taken not one, but two characters that I wasn't particularly enamoured with and managed to make me love them.
As I'm sure the author intended, like most (if not all) readers, I didn't like Leo Hathaway at the start of this series. But if there's one thing I know about this author, it's how incredibly, amazingly good she is at turning a distasteful character into a hero to die for. I've rooted for Leo since book one. Many times, when I'm really excited to read a certain character's story in a series, I build up expectations, and I'm disappointed when it finally comes. Not so in this case. Leo's become a wonderful person, and Catherine Marks is the perfect partner for him. They are completely different in almost every way. Their only similarity is that they each have experienced events in their past that were soul-crushingly devastating. We've seen the antagonistic side of

2.5 stars. I was enjoying the book until the middlle when the story faultered. I didnt really get why Marks didn't want to marry Leo after having sex with him over and over again, and when they both seemed like they were in love with each other from earlier on in the book - arguing all the time or not. But Dodger the ferret stole the show for me and made the book worth the read. I'm glad there is no negative buttons to press like on Amazon, cuz i'm sure all the Lisa Kleypas fans would make me pa

Leo and Cat's story was wonderful! I have recently discovered the Hathaways and want to move in with them. I love them. I am looking forward to Bea's story. As I had already read Poppy's.

Although I enjoyed this book, it was entirely too long and drawn out. I think I would have had more tolerance and patience if I had begun with the first of the series instead of beginning with this one. I did not realize it was a part of a series until I began thinking that the stories of the sisters in this book would have been interesting (duh). If you are going to read this story, I highly recommend reading the others first, then maybe you'd have more patience with the pace of this one. TTFN-

I've actually read the book before, and I enjoyed it, but listening to this book was so much better. The narrator did a good job with the British accent and portraying the characters, even the male ones. That was enough for me. The love scenes seemed strange at first to hear out loud, but after the first one, I got used to it and they were also great. I must have read too swiftly through these scenes the first time, because this time I got to savor them.

I'm not sure why this book didn't really work for me. It was written well enough, but I just never connected with the characters. It was okay as a bag of chips sort of historical romance, but it lacked the emotion and character focus I crave lately. /shrug
