★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I loved this one, narrated by Susan Duerden, who does an excellent job. I’ll be looking for more of her work. She is so good with the male (not easy) and female voices and the accents, regardless of the country or the social class. Ms. Duerden is very good at making me forget the book is even being narrated, instead drawing me into the story.

My first book by Eloisa James and I loved it! I loved the humor and the tenderness and while other books have certainly had more steam, this one had enough to get the job done. Hot, sexy Dr. Piers, tortured though he may be, became my hero and Linnet Berry Thrynne is my type heroine. Loved her spunkiness. And she was the perfect one to tame the Beast:)

I definately will be reading more by this author.

Well, I didn't love it. Ms. James strayed away from the whimsical, romantic feel of fairy tale that I expected after reading the first in this series. This was much darker. Of course, I know that Beauty and the Beast is a far cry from Cinderella. But this book was just a bit odd to me.

The 'beast' is extremely sarcastic, very crude, and it turned me off of his character. Nearly everything that comes out of his mouth is hurtful or hateful or just plain unfeeling. He never really gets over it, ...more

Just like its predecessor A Kiss At Midnight, When Beauty Tamed the Beast is a little ‘off’ to start with. There was something disjointed about the writing and while I could see that there was some witty banter going on, it wasn't engaging me at all and I felt very detached from the story.

But, just like A Kiss At Midnight, this one does get better. When Linnet and Piers met about midway through Chapter Seven it really picked up and started becoming a fun, enjoyable read. From there, it ...more

I loved this book! I stayed up to 3:30 am to finish it practically in one sitting and I rarely do that. I loved these characters and their amazing chemistry. The hero, Piers, was inspired by the tv character House. Linnet, the heroine, was lovely and Elizabeth Bennett witty. They both are very intelligent - and with great senses of humor - the best combination, in my opinion. I read the way that Piers described Linnet over a few times because it was one of the best compliments I've ever read:

Sekali2 nulis review ah :D

Gue kayanya harus punya keyakinan deh sama Eloisa James. Setiap kali baca buku dia pasti awalnya ngga yakin bakal bagus ato ngga, tapi akhirnya pasti jadi suka. Mungkin karena cara bercerita Ms. James yang berbeda dari penulis HR lain, makanya butuh sedikit penyesuaian sebelum bener-bener bisa meresapi (halah) jalan ceritanya.

Anyway, ceritanya gini: Linnet disuruh menikah dengan Piers karena diduga hamil diluar nikah (it's not true dan ada penjelasannya yang agak2 ngga Sekali2 nulis review ah :D

Ayahnya Piers setuju dengan rencana ini karena Piers ngga pernah tertarik untuk nikah, kebetulan ini ada yang mau jadi hayuk aja. Linnet pergi ke rumah Piers di Wales dan walopun Piers awalnya ngga kepengen nikah padahal udah disodorin Linnet yang digambarkan cuantik banget. Tapi mereka mulai mengenal satu sama lain sampe akhirnya jatuh cinta, hidup bahagia, tamat. :D

Plotnya emang sederhana banget, tapi gue suka dengan ceritanya. Gue suka sama Linnet karena dia optimis dan ngga mendayu2, padahal nama baik dia udah tercoreng sampai harus dipaksa nikah sama Piers. Trus untuk si Piers sendiri, heh, ngingetin gue banget sama dr. House yang di tipi. Mulai dari profesi, tongkat, asisten dokternya juga dikasih nama 'ducklings', dan tentu aja kepribadiannya juga mirip House yang bermulut tajem dan ceplas ceplos banget. Diatas kertas Piers terlihat seperti karakter yang lebih 'kuat' dibanding Linnet, tapi Linnet juga ngga kalah menarik. Piers mulutnya tajem banget tapi Linnet ngga peduli, kadang dibales dengan kata-kata yang ngga kalah tajem, kadang ngga dilayanin sama sekali.

Sekali lagi, walaupun jalan ceritanya sederhana, tapi cara mereka interaksi bener2 jadi pilar cerita dan membuat buku ini ngga ngebosenin. Masalah skandalnya Linnet-pun ngga dibikin berat, semua permasalahan dijelaskan dengan cara yang ringan. Karakter2 pendukungnya juga oke. Kalo nyari buku HR yang simpel dan ngga banyak intrik tapi tetep menarik untuk dibaca, menurut gue buku ini bisa dijadiin sebagai pilihan. It's good.

-Piers orginally didn't want to marry Linnet because he didn't like her, they weren't compatible, and he felt he didn't deserve her. By around page 100 or maybe earlier, he didn't want to marry her because his father chose her for him.

-Piers lied about being incapable of conceaving for most of the book, and when he finally told Linnet that it was infact a lie, neither of them made a big deal about it.

-There was literally no reason for Piers to not want to marry Linnet. His excuses were ...more
