Holy cow this was a good one!! Totally fell in love with Lothaire!! Elizabeth is an awesome character too & the storyline was just amazing. One of my favourite books for sure!

This book surprised me, in a good way!

I remember reading the summary and not being too impressed. (Especially since that kind of plotline means some kind of long separation, and it sort of did in this book.) But since I kept hearing people rave about it, especially about the craaazy and bad boy Lothaire, I gave it a try. Much to my surprised, I enjoyed the characters (even the heroine!). I loved how the two of them kept fighting/bantering(?).

I had been waiting for Lothaire's story since beginning this series. He was the all powerful, elusive one that all intrigued me. I loved this character, and his book didn't disappoint. Lothaire has finally found his bride in Saroya, a death goddess. However, she is currently possessing the body of Elizabeth Pierce, a mere human of less than stellar means. I'm also an H apologist, so this review will probably be full of unpopular opinions about the book and the h.

Idk, it might have been because of the audio version, but that hick accent from ellie got to me, and she kind of annoyed me. I'm not big on hillbilly stereotypes usually, and she and her family had it in spades. To be fair, I do think she was a pretty big stereotype of how appalachian people truly are. Like the author watched a few too many eps of the beverly hillbillies when she did the h backstory.
I get it the, authors shtick is enemies to lovers and what with Lothaire being snobby while his bride is an uneducated hillbilly they couldn't have been more opposing but I myself didn't find this dynamic enjoyable.

I do prefer the immortal h in the series over mortal ones since they don't have annoying hangups about being a part of the lore.

The h bordered on tstl to me when she didn't want to be turned and tried to decapitate Lothaire out of anger over turning her. Why does mortal h always not want to be turned in pnr anyway? I get some, but a lot of people would jump at the chance to become immortal. h in pnr treating this as an issue never makes sense to me, and it always annoys me.

Annother annoyance, nothing spells non devotion to me like being willing to kill your lover as the h did when everything was almost resolved all to stretch the story out since kc needs her third act breakup.

I'm still pissed off thinking about it! he did everything he could to save and protect the h, albeit after treating the h harshly for the first half, even giving up the chance for his kingdom and his ledger of debts while she almost murdered him because he made her a vampire all to protect her. She's just dumb.

He was right with all the enemies that would try to kill his mate. Staying a defensless human would have been so stupid as he explained. Not to mention, They only had 24 hours to do it while miss hillbilly was dragging her feet and didn't want to do it as the tstl h she is.

One final thought. I was mad at the way Lothaire was so obsessed with that demon being his bride and other stuff he did to the h, but come on he was willing to burn himself to save her, although it didn't work as planned while ellie's still going on about "does he truly love me"🙄 come on now his actions didn't need to be spelled out atp. I feel he made up for everything and is more devoted since he will never attempt to hurt ellie. I hate one-sided devotion in romance stories. Sometimes, actions do speak more than words.

Yes, I'm H biased most of the time, but I think I would have enjoyed and immortal h for Lothaire instead of what was given.

It's taken me a couple of days to put my thoughts together on this one. In some ways I really loved this book. As a story I thought it was great. Lothaire is an entertaining, crazy, larger than life figure and this world is one that I love and after 11 books am completely invested in. And here we're tossed onto the other side of the Lore with Lothaire, the Enemy of Old.

When I picked up this book for the IAD series I was prepared to be dissapointed because I had such high expectations for a book about one of my absolute FAVORITE characters ever, I have huge Lothaire crush.
I was blown away by how much this book DID NOOOTTT Suck!
I loved it.
I could read about Lothaire every day and not get bored.
Kresley did a great job not deviating from who we have found him to be as a character since the beginning of the series, even though we got more of a softer side from him, ...more

Who knew you could pair a centuries old sophisticated but very evil and cruel vampire with a demon possessed hillbilly and it would bring out the best in them both and make for a wonderful (and lusty) love story???

I'm a sucker (hee hee, vampire joke) for bad boys with a sensitive side and Lothaire has always been a favorite character of mine. Its about time he got his own book! Best Immortals After Dark yet!
