What Members Thought

First full length novel in Cole's paranormal romance series Immortals After Dark, (second overall), A Hunger Like No Other is a gold mine of uber-alpha, destined-for-each other, sexy reading.
When Lachlain scents his mate while hidden below the streets of Paris, he does the impossible- he breaks the chains that have kept him imprisoned for 150 years and goes after her. Sure he tears off a limb to do so, but he's a werewolf- so regeneration, though painful, is possible.

★★★★★ Wow! I wasn’t expecting a man to be narrating this story, but Robert Petkoff does an excellent job as storyteller. The prologue does start off from Lachlain’s POV, trapped in a vampire dungeon below the Paris streets, so he sets the scene – and Lachlain’s reasons for his conflicting emotions toward his mate – nicely. Though he does both voices for Lachlain and Bowen with Scottish accents, each voice was clearly distinguishable from the other.
I have to confess that Emmaline Troy is one ...more

I’m not really sure what to think of A Hunger Like No Other. I did end up enjoying it, but as I ponder how to review and rate it, it seems I can only summon criticism rather than praise.
Firstly, the plot was very reminiscent of that in The Warlord Wants Forever. The theme seems to be that the [insert paranormal species here] hero discovers that his predestined mate is a [insert different paranormal species here], a traditional and fundamental enemy of his kind.

Don't know why it took me so long to read this. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I thought I would like this book more but for whatever reason it just didn't work for me.
I couldn't figure out how to say Lachlains' name so I just pronounced it Lack Lain, which was kind of odd for me. He was your typical Alpha male; overbearing, annoying, and 100% male. I didn't really like him. I liked the beginning, how he was introduced, but other than that he was just kind of too caveman like for me. It wasn't just that he said what he felt (because most of the time he did) but he just did ...more

I had read KC's historicals and really liked them. Since alot of my friends had read this one, thought I would give it a try. Loved it! I liked Emma and loved it that she just didn't roll over and strip her clothes off for Lachlain, that he had to work for her love. I also loved the unexpected humor that was woven throughout the book. Especially Emma's badassness...too funny! Even more delicious is I have 12 more to go in the series. WIN!!

Alright, I admit. This ended up being better than I expected. I think I want more.
Emmaline Troy, our vampire-valkyrie heroine, starts off as a cowardly character who happens to epitomize the term push-over through much of the book. And that's how she meets our ever-so-charming (*cough*not*cough*) lykae, Lachlan MacRieve - who kidnaps, antagonizes, and nearly rapes our demure heroine, all because she was his mate. But if it continued in this vein, I probably would have burned this book (which wou ...more

Through all those times of searching for a good book to escape boredom, I can't ever forgive myself for setting Kresley Cole's books aside. I was skeptic at first, thinking it may be cheap imitating ideas of great authors like Sherrilyn Kenyon and J.R. Ward. But God, how wrong I was!
I really enjoyed this book. The storyline is unique with lots of creatures involve. The book moved at the right pace. I don't know if it's just me, but sometimes, there were some humor that I didn't quite get. I thi ...more

This is probably my least favorite and it's all related to my dislike of the heroine. The hero is great. The supporting characters and world building is AWESOME! I just couldn't love the heroine. But definitely do not let that stop you from reading this FANTASTIC series!
