Great new idea for a paranormal series! Obviously, it's not brand new, but it's new to me, and I loved it! I love that Elena is a tough girl who can't quite seem to turn off her emotions. So she's prickly and vulnerable at the same time. These contradictions are what draws the archangel Raphael to her. Well, that and her awesomeness at being a vampire hunter. I did not want this book to end. I knew this book was going to be special after I read the first chapter. The characters and world Nalini Singh creates are unbelievable. I loved Elena and Raphael and they made a perfect couple. I particularly liked Elena because she was a wonderful combination of being feminine and tough. I am a little torn in my opinion of this book. I am a certainly a fan of Nalini Signh's work, even her earlier non-paranormal works. This new series, however, is WAY too dark for me. I have a hard time dealing with extreme violence and this book had it in spades. There was tons of blood, guts, and gore, which is not in my comfort zone. When I first started this I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I have to say that I was very surprised. Elena is strong and doesn't put up with anything that they try on her. At time I think that she is a bit to stubborn but that is also a good thing considering what and who she is dealing with. excellent story. loved it from beginning to end. loved the characters of elena and rapheal. loved learning about the hunter's guild and the archangels. wow. love this series. Hope Nalini keeps writing this series from years to come. i got both of these books from the library. now i sooo have to buy them. and how all of the archangels are different from each other. and all of their powers are diffent, also. and how rapheal made elena into an archangel. was awesome.
