Damn, it's good to be Adam Black - sorry, I couldn't resist, LOL - but I bet it's better to be Adam Black's lover!

Adam is one of those heroes you just love to hate - or hate to love, either way works for me. He was selfish, arrogant, manipulative and didn't have any qualms about using anyone and anything to his own advantage. He was also as handome and sexy as one can be, which only helped him to get what he wanted. BUT there was something beneath all that, something that shouldn't be there cons Damn, it's good to be Adam Black - sorry, I couldn't resist, LOL - but I bet it's better to be Adam Black's lover!

Adam is one of those heroes you just love to hate - or hate to love, either way works for me. He was selfish, arrogant, manipulative and didn't have any qualms about using anyone and anything to his own advantage. He was also as handome and sexy as one can be, which only helped him to get what he wanted. BUT there was something beneath all that, something that shouldn't be there considering he was basically a soulless and unfeeling Fae. Had it always been there? I really didn't see it in the previous book in the series, and I think KMM has done a great job making me believe in Adam's "change of heart" - figuratively speaking, since Faes don't have hearts.

Gabby was funny and likeable, but not really remarkable. I think the "problem" was, Adam stole the show and she didn't have enough "spark" to stand on her own. Bottom line, she wasn't as interesting as Lisa, Gwen and Chloe, the heroines in the previous books. BTW, Gwen, Chloe and their respective MacKeltar husbands - sighs! - make more than an simple appearance and play important roles in The Immortal Highlander. I have to say, their reactions when they see Adam "in the flesh" for the first time was priceless, LOL. I had expected to see Circenn too - after all, he was Adam's son - but he was a no-show. Oh well, we can't always have it all, right?

Once again, KMM told a story that kept me captivated and entertained. The love scenes were hot - not hard to imagine, since Adam oozed sex appeal - and there was always something happening to keep me turning the pages anxiously. Aoibheal's revelation after she restored Adam's immortality was unexpected and I had a hard time buying it. I really didn't see how he could have been fooled like that. Anyway, that wasn't enough to ruin the story for me.

This book was nicely tied to the previous ones in the series - I particularly liked how Adam made everything "right" for Circenn and Lisa, the H/h in The Highlander's Touch -, so this is one series that definitely must be read in order.

Such a pleasure to read. And strangely a very difficult review to write.

Aside from the fact that it was a beautiful and captivating romance that will make you fall absolutely, positively and irrevocably in love with Adam Black….there was action, there was suspense… there were murderous villains with evil agendas to enslave all mankind.
But underneath it all was the age old questions; “who wants to live forever?”; “what does it really mean to be human?”

Adam Black Mystical Prince of the Faey, gets Such a pleasure to read. And strangely a very difficult review to write.

Aside from the fact that it was a beautiful and captivating romance that will make you fall absolutely, positively and irrevocably in love with Adam Black….there was action, there was suspense… there were murderous villains with evil agendas to enslave all mankind.
But underneath it all was the age old questions; “who wants to live forever?”; “what does it really mean to be human?”

Adam Black Mystical Prince of the Faey, gets punished by the Queen of the Faey herself.
For his interference with humankind, for humiliating her in front of her court, for being an all round “trouble maker” of immense influence; he is sentenced to live as a human, until the queen sees fit.
Adam, who relishes in being an all powerful Faey, who can hop skip and jump dimensions as he pleases, is extremely put out with his Queen, but ultimately accepts his fate to live as a “lower being” and dwells his nights away. Until he meets Gabrielle, the sihd-seer; (human beings who can see Faey walking among their own) spots Adam on a park bench, and although it has been ingrained into her from childhood to ignore all Faey creatures… she cannot seem to tear her eyes away.

And so the journey begins, Adam realises he is being seen by Gaby and that he can get her to aid him in finding any possible way out of his human state… Gaby realises she just made a huge error, which might cost her life. For the Faey all too soon become conscious of the fact that Gaby can see them, a sihd-seer, and threat to the Faey world which was suppose to be annihilated a few centuries back by the Queen’s guards.

The twosome travel to Scotland, the villains ensue… honing in on Gaby and Adam, to prevent Adam from gaining his immortality and powers again.
During this all, Adam becomes increasingly fascinated with Gaby.
Her soul draws him like a beacon. He experiences emotions (which are rumoured) only humans have the privilege of feeling. Realises, that in wanting her to remain with him, she will either have to be immortal (loosing her soul in the process) or he will have to become human.
Coveting Gaby, but above all things, coveting her humanity and her mortality….
Any moment can be her last…
And Adam knows humanity shares a common purpose; to live each moment to their soul’s desire… a soul which he is achingly aware of that he’s lacking. It’s this purpose that drives them; it’s purpose that binds them…. This is the purpose that defines them.
Will Adam be able to change the very thing he loves and adores about Gaby, to keep her?

I really like hearing the story and background of adam black, as well as the back story of the Darroc. To be honest, I was more interested in that part of this story, and not so much the love story between Adam and Gabrielle. I found that to be a little generic, especially when compared to the previous 3 or 4 highlander stories... I really liked that she was the first sidhe-seer, and enjoyed hearing some back story on that as well... still looking forward to the next fever book desperately ;)

I know so many people think this book is the best in the series, but Adam just didn't live up to that for me. I thought his actions towards Gabrielle were very calculated at the beginning and for a long time after wards. It really took a threat to her for him to own up to his feelings. I did like how Gabrielle stood up to him and how he really had to work to win her over. Plus her talk with the maid patrol was so funny!
I also enjoyed learning more about the fae and Adam's place in their world. I ...more

Adam Black was fun and irritating and aggravating in the earlier books in this series, and could be counted on to do his best to really mess up some human's life. But when his queen punished him and made him vulnerable, he became likeable - even though he remained arrogant. And that should be hard to do when no one can see him or hear him! Until Gabrielle, that is - and there the fun begins.
