So she does the only thing she can think of; she proposes.

This book is fantastic; it is driven forward by the personality of St Vincent, one of the most memorable heroes that I have ever read. When you first meet him he seems a hopeless rake, only interested in his own comforts, cold and cutting without a shred of human compassion seemingly, but still very beautiful with his golden looks and cat like grace. His wit and cutting humour, often at the expense of himself and others is also a memorable trait of his and I loved reading his dialogue. However, he receives a most remarkable transformation when he meets Evie, he gets a purpose something that has been otherwise lacking when he becomes a husband and the owner of a failing gaming hall that Evie’s dying father owns. I really can’t say enough about St Vincent, he is a unique character, charming, cold and charismatic, the kind of bad boy you know will break your heart, but you can’t resist loving anyways.

Evie is also a pleasant surprise, although it is always hinted at in the other books that she is more than just a shy stammering girl, in this book she really comes into her own, managing to hold her own against St Vincent admirably and she was a very loveable heroine. I liked watching her grow stronger away from the abusive presence of her despicable relatives.

Watching the romance grow between the two, especially St Vincent begrudgingly falling in love with Evie was a treat. And watching Evie handle St Vincent was brilliant, as was watching Sebastian seducing her, this book was steamy and marvellously wicked, one particular scene when he tells Evie in delicious detail, exactly what he wants to do with her always sticks in my mind.

Anyways I could ramble on and on about this book for ages, but suffice to say this is a fantastic book, both by itself and as part of the Wallflowers series. St Vincent is just a fantastic character, well drawn out, interesting and very memorable and I would recommend reading this book just so you can meet him. It also introduces the delectable Cam Rohan who is a main character in LK’s Hathaway series, as well as showing Ivo Jenner, Evies father, who is mentioned and a character in The Gamblers series.

Love St. Vincent and Evie:) Even though this wasn't my fav book in the series, they were my fav charchaters. I also enjoyed that this book was a little darker, and more intense than the others. It broke out of the mold the other two had, and made sure that the series didn't get stagnet, and predictable. I can't wait to read more fro Kleypas! (especially Daisy's book!) ...more

Advice: You should read Wallflower #2 before reading Devil in Winter to understand Sebastians behaviour and character.

This novel begins, where the other Wallflower novels usually end: A proposal of marriage and the marriage taking place in Gretna Green. The wallflower Evie wants to escape her evil family by marrying the notorious rake Sebastian St. Vincent.
