What Members Thought

Every time I manage to find a Stephen Hunter book I end up liking it waaay more than I thought I would.
Bob Lee Swagger, the character from the author, is FAAAAR better than what is portrayed in the movie. As usual. That is what trips me up, the movie is such a let-down that I think the book will be the same. Not true.
Swagger is a great character. Nick Memphis shines too. Mr. Hunter did some great writing!
Loved the plot twist this book had in it as well.

Great Stephen Hunter read. He introduces Ray Cruz, next generation USMC sniper, just as hard-headed and spooky as his original hero, Bob Lee Swagger. Bob Lee is getting a bit long in the tooth, and presumably the sniper torch will be passed to Cruz sometime in the future. On the way to a slam-bang finish, Mr. Hunter paints an unflattering picture of today's military civilian contractors, aka, mercenaries.
