A masterpiece by Oscar Wilde. I must agree with Bettie, how many times we will read this thrilling book?
A young man, strikingly beautiful and remarkably pure from corrupt influences, sits for a portrait and when that portrait is finished makes a prayer that instead of his changing, the portrait will.
What follows is more than just a Faustian story. Perhaps Dorian comes to realize that man must bear the evidence of his mistakes though life or perhaps not. What we do see is a man who struggles to find something that gives his life meaning when the typical things are stripped away.

I certainly enjoyed this book. It was a fast moving, can't wait to see what happens next kind of book. a quick read to be sure. The chapter of the long lists of the things Dorian collected was a bit long but other than that a good read. Dorian was a young handsome fellow who gets caught up with his looks and things that gave him pleasure. To explain it all would give away too much of the story. Interestingly the original text that first appeared in a magazine was not received with the same adora

An adequate read. At a point however the author's thought provoking witticisms couldn't overcome his tendency to be tedious.
