Beautifully written. Subtle, raw, and genuine. I loved Borne for everything that he was, the goofy destroyer and creator.

This was a lot of fun. It was an extremely quick read. I wanted the confrontation fight at the end a bit more fleshed out. It felt glossed over and instead of an escalating plot point it fell flat but otherwise I really enjoyed the book and want to r ...more

Unexpected and fresh. I really enjoyed this book and didn’t want it to end. The characters are somewhat secondary to the story but the gruff cop was my favorite. I loved being surprised by several developments and reactions that I didn’t see coming. ...more

Terry Pratchett
“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.”
Terry Pratchett, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Markus Zusak
“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.”
Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

Markus Zusak
“I have hated words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right.”
Markus Zusak, The Book Thief

Orson Scott Card
“I think that most of us, anyway, read these stories that we know are not "true" because we're hungry for another kind of truth: the mythic truth about human nature in general, the particular truth about those life-communities that define our own identity, and the most specific truth of all: our own self-story. Fiction, because it is not about someone who lived in the real world, always has the possibility of being about oneself. --From the Introduction”
Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game

Markus Zusak
“I am haunted by humans.”
Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
