Actually, this is just the kind of book I thought I wouldn't really like ... but there was a fascination about the way the story was told that made it hard for me to put down. I found myself a little confused about who was writing the letters at the beginning ... but the story unfolded so I figured everything out. The biggest thing that kept me reading, was the moral dilemma that Frankenstein found himself in when the monster demanded a "wife". Lots of philosophical debate, difficult to wrap one ...more

One of the exceptions to the rule. I prefer the films (and some are rubbish I must admit) to the book. Not exactly boring, Mary Shelley does have a way with words, but too little details and too much impossibility. I still really don't know how Frankenstein constructed his monster, he just did it. And this monster is an unhappy monster, but takes revenge because no-one loves him. In the end he just drifts away to the setting sun somewhere at the North Pole and decides to commit suicide in a fire ...more

Well, Frankenstein dies and the monster mourns near his body. The death didn't bring him the peace he was seeking rather he found its emotion turmoil and ruins in the destruction of his creator. The rest of the book was fiction but the crux for me was destruction can't bring peace for a long time. ...more
