I read this book some more than 10 years ago, and I remember that I loved it at the time. The multiple-narrators technique and the plot are both very intriguing. Collins is also quite a witty writer.
Looking over the text generally now, I feel like I might have missed something deeper that Collins would have been trying to say. I would give this book another try sometimes. Although at times my interest waned, I can't but give this five stars. It was a very long book, yet I read it relatively quickly, carrying it with me every day. I will miss Marion, Walter and even the count! Laura was annoying. Was she meant to be? I was glad for the happy ending, it left me feeling satisfied with the book. After the journey undertaken with this saga of epic proportions a fade out would have felt like a rip off.

This book needs to include more of Mr. Fairlie's narratives and a stronger male protagonist, and then I would have given it five stars. It also didn't help that I had to finish this book super quickly, so I probably missed some exciting parts while I speed read through it.
