Well ... I liked this book a lot ... I think. I guess I'm feeling a bit conflicted after finishing it. I can see why it is so beloved by so many people. It is a book that I recommended to my twelve year-old daughter. So I did like it, and I can appreciate the message it provides. I'm just feeling a bit conflicted after the ending. And I feel guilty for feeling so conflicted. I feel like if I were feeling a bit more "literary" right now as I read the book I would have felt more love for the brill

This was clearly one of the early "alternate reality" books for young readers. A human society that has cleansed itself of anything that causes pain or suffering is depicted here, along with one young man who slowly realizes all that has been sacrificed to reach this "security". A wonderful read, and I am very much looking forward to the movie, which comes out this year sometime.

I truly found this book to be enlightening. It was quite an easy read, to be honest, but I often found myself thinking about while I was between chapters. I think that is the most important aspect of literature; its ability to inspire thought.
I don't necessarily care if it spoke against a utopian society. It still drew attention to the fact that we are frail and wonderfully made. Life is not just about finding perfection and eliminating pain, it's about embracing it all, the good and the bad, t ...more
