Fantastic start - like everybody setting on to read a novel as well-known as this, I had certain expectations and - in this case at least - I was slightly expecting to be disappointed. Well, the beginning of the novel is a blast - Stoker throws the reader right into the action, one breathlessly follows legal counsellor Jonathan Harker to Transylvania where he encounters a far less charming, much meaner and much darker Dracula than the one I had in mind.
