Gregor Samsa...poor Gregor. I felt so bad for him throughout the novel but the story was wonderfully written and exemplified the theme of loneliness. I can see why this book has been so popular in schools, it is a great read and harps on many aspects of human nature...loneliness, isolation, caring for one's family, responsibility, etc...

Not as weird as expected. Interpreted as a metaphor for terminal illness, the insect stuff makes sense, and I took the novel to be more about how people handle such a situation. I found it a sad and somewhat depressing read, not helped by Kafka's quite clumsy construction of sentences. The latter, of course, might be blamed on the translation.
