i can see why this book gets such high praise. it seems that it was revolutionary for its time. however, to a person not living in the eighties, i think that it is less powerful than it used to be. the biggest theme that it discusses is the Cold War, which obviously ended two decades ago. now, if i had read this book DURING the Cold War, i'm sure that i'd give it 5 stars.

This is the first time I have read Watchmen since it was originally released as a 12 issue mini-series in the mid-80s. Watchmen is a great graphic novel that reads more like a 'novel' than a comic book -- even non-comic book fans will enjoy it. "a milestone in comic book history (but not for everyone)"
when i read watchmen, it was an interesting experience. i was initially drawn in by its constant heralds as the epitomy of graphic novels, which it fits to a tee. if one takes the phrase "graphic novel" literally, word for word, that is just what moore has given us. watchmen is no lightweight reading. it is very moore, in that it is "heavy" in its style and story.

Nevermind that it's about "super-heroes", it's a greatly and tightly woven and violent tale about power, greed, and lost love.
