I had seen a lot of raves and recs for The Hating Game on various book discussion boards, but the ebook price was a little too steep for me to pay for an unknown author. But along came another surprise settlement from the Apple ebook lawsuit, and I figured that I would use part of that money to splurge on this book. If I had had any idea how much I would enjoy reading this book, I would have used my own money to read it a long time ago.😍

Well, that was just delightful!
If you're in the mood for contemporary romance and the kind of delicious tortured love/hate that makes you wish ...
... things ... (sigh).
Um, anyway, I always appreciate a fearless heroine, even when she gets tangled in the sheets of the bed she makes. And grumpy, mind-reading heroes? Perfect.
A thoroughly enjoyable read-in-one-sitting kind of book with some pretty impressive kissing.

We only get the heroine's pov. The one upmanship trope is not my favorite. And this went on for 12 chapters. It was childish rather than funny banter. It got better from the 13th chapter on. I didn't connect with the H because we don't get his pov. He comes across like a mean girl. It needed an epilogue. But not bad for the author's debut novel.

I just read a great contemporary romance. It was so funny that I laughed out loud multiple times.
The hero and heroine are both personal assistants at a publishing company to 2 separate co-ceos. They fight with each other and try to outdo each other at work. It's a constant competition between them. They have some really good zingers when they are having conversations with each other. When they fall for each other, it's beautiful. The hero says the most romantic things. The hero does the most ro ...more

Fantastic! I want to re-read right away.
Really enjoyed the writing, the characters - I did book and audio simultaneous - both were great. The characters were fun, the story sweet and exciting. This was one of those books I didn't want to put down, nor read it too fast so I could savor it as much as possible - I couldn't decide which! *laughs* Also, I was dying for a different POV, still it read great as is.

Lucy and Josh work together at a publishing company. They also hate each other. Or do they? Things come to a head as they both apply for the same promotion.
This is a good example of the enemies to lovers trope. There is banter back and forth. I thought this worked because it took time for them to work out their feelings towards the other. It took time to build up. I could (kinda) believe them as a couple. What did take away from this book was Josh's behavior. WTF dude? I had a hard time liking h ...more

3.5 stars - it took a bit for this to get rolling storywise and for me to get used to the leading lady's 'voice ' but this ended up a pretty good enemies to lovers story - I loved the part where she stands up for her former nemesis.
