I have been a little bit of a Rainbow Rowell fangirl lately, since I tore through Eleanor & Park and became consumed by it.
Fangirl is the story of Cath Avery. Cath is a twin, a college freshman and an internet-famous fanfic author who writes gay slash about a sort of harry potter analogue series. The relationships in her life are difficult and her skills at navigating them are bumbling and awkward at best. There is romance, but the book is about Cath's whole life and her myriad of issues, not j ...more

I straight-up loved this book! But too much remained unresolved for a five-star rating, namely Cath's relationship with Nick & Wren's relationship with Courtney.

I fell in love with Levi! He's such a fun, caring, tender person.

. Cath is a Simon Snow superfan and she writes Simon Snow fanfiction. Cath starts college and must learn how to function as a solo entity without her twin, Wren.

* Simon Snow is like Harry Potter.
* Reagan, Cath's goth roommate

Loved the writing style and the engaging characters. Could have done without the Simon Snow storyline and by the second half of the novel, I was skipping over those sections. Just didn't find them necessary.

I am not loving this, but I can understand the reasons so many do. I don't relate to the characters for the most part, and I feel like that might be a big point in this book. I am not a fan of Harry Potter, have never read the books, and only watched a few of the movies. The Simon Snow character of this book plays to every Harry Potter fan wanting more. A part of me thought this might make me want to read the Harry Potter series. I don't identify with the whole Fangirl mentality when it comes to

I just re-read this book after seeing Rainbow Rowell speak at the Cedar Rapids library. (She was delightful!) I think this book might be one of my favorite books. I love it so much, and I only wish I'd read it when I was in high school. (Of course it did not exist then, since I am in my 30s, and it's not very old, but I over-identify with Cather, so the book would have meant a lot to me then.)

So very enjoyable. I know that we shelve this in ya but definitely a book that could also go New Adult. Not as insane life-in-danger-to-the-main-character dramatic as Eleanor and Park (thank god, I don't think I could have taken that again). Definitely reminded me of college in many ways.
