Put simply, this book is just brilliant writing and sharp editing.

Bring him home. I want to be there when Mark Watney finally returns to Earth. I like the guy, He’s smart. He’s funny. He has the most unbelievable luck. In addition to creating a very engaging protagonist, Andy Weir obviously knows what Defoe proved almost 300 years ago; a desert island survival story makes very compelling reading. So, I binge read this over the last 24 hours. I'm not sure that I can say anything about this book that hasn't probably already been said. I loved it. Granted, the physics and mechanical engineering was usually over my head, but not so much that I couldn't keep up with the story. Character development was fantastic. Really well done, could not put it down. You're pulled in and the protagonist keeps you. The science is well-explained and interesting and interesting to learn and be challenged by. Hope the movie doesn't mess it up.
