DNF at 35 %.. I’m in the minority with this but I felt like the old feels with Ruth Ware and previous novels. A story going on and on, as the mundane details build up.
The Turn of the Key got my hopes up that I would also love The Death of Mrs Westaway, but sadly it was not for me. Try again next time!

3 1/2 stars.
I am very conflicted about this one. The mystery and plot twists in the book kept me turning pages and needing to know what happened but I didn't like the writing style at all. I am having trouble putting my finger what I disliked so much but here are some ideas.
1. I had trouble visualizing the setting/scenes in her book. I never understood where things were in relation to each other in the room/ down hallways/ or on the estate. Some of her descriptions seemed too detailed or confli ...more

Harriet receives a letter from a solicitor telling her that her grandmother has died and left her an inheritance. Only it’s not her grandmother. But Harriet is so desperate for money she decides to try and con a few pounds out of the family to catch up on her bills.
What follows is a story that is as creepy and gothic as they come. Old estate in the middle of nowhere. Spooky housekeeper. Family feuds. Murders.
As Harriet encounters the family and realizes she is in over her head, she also encounte ...more

Well this definitely fit the gothic, atmospheric vibe. But with other Ruth Ware books, I found the style preceding the substance. The second half definitely picked up the pace, but the first half dragged and felt lacklustre.
It's more of a character-driven thriller, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the characters felt very one-dimensional. There was definitely some drama and history between all the sons of Mrs. Westaway, which I felt the story focused on too much rather than the actual pl ...more

Just when I thought nothing could top Woman in Cabin 10 I was wrong! Ruth Ware is the queen of atmospheric writing. This haunted house setting was perfect! It felt dark and eerie. It gave me the heebie jeebies! Another story that I could not tell how it would end because it kept me on the edge of my seat with twits and turns. This book is a little slower than her previous novels, but I feel like if you go into it knowing that it's going to be slow then you'll be good! If you go in expecting it t

While I enjoyed the atmosphere and Ruth Ware's writing, the major plot twist of this mystery was perhaps the most obvious plot twist I have ever read, followed by a plot twist that came completely out of left field. Given that these are my two least favorite twist reveals within mysteries, you can likely guess how I felt about this book. I also found that a lot of the characters blended together in my mind and some of the characters and their motivations could have been developed a bit more (loo
