A girl grows up in an interesting situation and then slowly learns the magical truth of her guardian, her father, and her herself. It was interesting but I found the main character rather unpersuasive; she took a long time to develop agency (for realistic plot reasons, but I was still impatient), the frame didn't make emotional sense, and I had an allergy to love stories. So a good book, but not aimed at me.

A weird tale - I personally didn't find the protagonist likeable, but the story was great. One can't help but do a compare and contrast to the doors in Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series.
