I saw someone's review who recommenced this book for engineers. Mark is a sarcastic science nerd. So yeah this book is pretty much perfect for engineers. Weir works at getting the science plausible. In reality, Mark would probably die in one of the many crises.

There is some great sarcasm. When he realizes he is on the edge of a storm, he comments that he does not know how big the storm is. But he knows NASA is watching him. So pretty much every human except Mark knows which way he should go.

I've never read a book that's set on another planet (that's not fantasy), it was definately interesting. The reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because Science is not my strong point, neither is maths, it was a bit tedious at times. I'm really excited to watch the movie now though. It was a really good story, and Mark Watney had a good sense of humor, which I think would have played an important part in staying sane on another planet by yourself for a year and a half. ...more
