Unfortunatelly I have to admit that when I went to library I've judged this book by it's cover. There was something in it. I have to say that I really liked the book even if I've choosen it in a wrong way. 'The Raven Boys' by Maggie Stiefvater is interesting and what's more important original.

Ok, so I definitely understand the mixed reviews I've read for this book. It's pretty slow. I didn't love all of the characters. But I liked this book. Here's why:

1. It was different. The plot was rather slow and somewhat uneventful, but it was interesting. It was supernatural, but also strangely scientific? That doesn't make sense. But you really got to learn and discover the supernatural world as the characters did. And the "magic" or whatever you want to call it, the quest that the characters Ok, so I definitely understand the mixed reviews I've read for this book. It's pretty slow. I didn't love all of the characters. But I liked this book. Here's why:

1. It was different. The plot was rather slow and somewhat uneventful, but it was interesting. It was supernatural, but also strangely scientific? That doesn't make sense. But you really got to learn and discover the supernatural world as the characters did. And the "magic" or whatever you want to call it, the quest that the characters were on, it seemed at least somewhat believable. Fictional, but believable.

2. Even if I didn't particularly like all of the characters, I liked the way the characters were written. I had conflicting feelings about almost all of them, times I liked them and times I didn't, as if they were real people. They got some pretty predictable stereotypes, but in a very aware way, and then challenged them. They characters had a good group dynamic that seemed realistic. I don't think you're supposed to like all the characters all the time, and the struggles of their relationships were real.

3. Stiefvater has an interesting way of making it very clear what's going to happen in the book (I mean, how could she not when so many of the characters are psychic), so there aren't really any twists or surprises, and yet when events transpire, even if you were expecting them, they don't happen exactly the way you thought they would. It allows you to be very involved in the story but still get some of the satisfaction that comes with a plot twist.

There were a few things I didn't like. Blue's character was kind of annoying. She tried way too hard to be quirky. Which I think was at least somewhat intentional by Stiefvater, but was still annoying. It may have caused some internal eye rolling. Her entry into Gansey's group also seemed a little bit forced. Like, she was supposed to hate them, but seemed to get over it pretty quick. That wasn't a huge drawback, just seemed a little unrealistic.

The story was slow, too. Good, intriguing, but slow. I had to keep reminding myself that it was interesting and that I wanted to keep reading. It wasn't one of those books where you just automatically read the next chapter. But I thorough enjoyed it.

Overall it was good. I like Gansey and his squad a lot, and am very interested in their quest. I'll be reading the rest of the series at some point fir sure! ...more

I was so put off on reading this book for so long, because I just knew that I would love it, and no surprise here... I really bloody loved this book. I loved it to the point that, days later, I still cannot stop thinking about it, and ... ahem... certain characters *RONAN LYNCH WHAT THE HELL?*
