Shelves: 3-stars, popular-books-i-didn-t-like

I have mixed feelings about this book - on one hand I loved the strong female characters, I loved the fact that it was a female Vlad the Impaler story.
But on the other hand... nothing seemed to happen.
I think my main issue is I dislike books that tell an entire lifetime of story because often there is no build up to half the story because you're just getting snippets of someones life.
Towards the end it picked up, but overall I wasn't that thrilled with it.
I would still recommend it to people ...more

This is the story of Lada and her brother Radu and their eventual friend Mehmed.

Lada's character is based on the historical character of Vlad the Impaler if Vlad was a girl.
Different events from history have been well researched and manipulated to create the world within these pages. One thing is similar to history - Women are looked upon as lesser than men, Thrones would still go to the first male in the lineage.

I really wanted to like this book but I just didn't. I didn't really like the characters or the subject matter. The cover is beautiful and I had really high hopes because many have enjoyed it but I just found it hard to get into, especially when you don't really care what happens to the characters.
