For once I've watched the film first and I must say the adaptation was very well done. I think this is the first time where I think it doesn't matter whether you read the book, watch the film or do both. I had to remind myself several times throughout the story: this is a book, it's fiction, we never actually landed on Mars. That's how well this story reads. Negative things? I came over this book while I was browsing Goodreads and Audible for something new to listen to. When I saw the ratings it had received I wanted to read it. I had just listened to the audiobook version of Ready Player One and didn't want to make the same mistake again. Great books should be read not listened to. So I bought the hard cover version.

Good writing. Even though I know those technical details were important and gave integrity to the author's writing, yet sometimes I felt myself skipping over those long details just because they went completely over me. But its a unique book for me, rather first of sorts. The situational comedy in the backdrop of being stuck all alone on Mars is really entertaining though.

Great adventure! Did take me 2 starts before I was willing to 'invest' in reading all his calculations. They are fun but after awhile get a little tedious.
